Today's post is a duel feature on Thornton Sr. and his son, Thornton Jr. While these two are side characters, they play a giant role in Aerilaya's life.

Thornton Sr., he's the leader of the Thieves' Guild and Aerilaya's boss. He's first introduced in Chapter 1 checking on Aerilaya's wellbeing while doing his nightly rounds of making sure everyone was in the compound. While he is portrayed as a laid back individual, he's fairly strict when it comes to late-night tomfoolery, and others stealing more than they should. He's a person referred to as the Caretaker in Stoneguard as he takes in people who are either down on their luck, feeling lost, or need a change of 'scenery.'

He also assists orphans and abandoned children to the Forest Elves' Glade as King Ornthalas helps those children find homes. Thornton Sr. is also known for helping adults get back on their feet as well, especially those who have become an unexpected widow. The reason for this is because he lost his wife and daughter during a surprise attack between a group of rogue mages and royal mages.

His eldest child, Thornton Jr. was captured and was placed in a Helina orphanage. Due to this experience, it left Thornton Sr. a broken man for several years until a Sea Elf, named Aired, helped him get back on his feet. After experiencing that kindness, it changed him to start the Thieves' Guild as that was his profession when in Helina, and help others in the process. While he does steal from the wealthy, he doesn't keep much of what he steals as he gives back to the less fortunate in the area.

Thornton Jr., he's the opposite of his father. The child, as Aerilaya loves to refer to him as, is a 22-year-old adult human who has a grudge against elves and is an antagonist to her and Kailu. The reason Thornton Jr. is like this is due to his time in a Helina Orphanage. The place was run by a Moon Elf woman, who was spared from being killed but was forced to watch her family be slaughtered and was given an ultimatum or forced servitude.

Because of this, the woman lashed out at any humans or beings that could shapeshift, and Thornton Jr. became that person she wanted to lash out at the most. The reason was that his father stole from her and her family often. While he understood why she did this, this changed him, and his views on elves.

At first, he was sympathetic as she had explained why she was the way she was, but that slowly changed overtime when he ran into the owner of the orphanage. The owner, an elven man of unknown origins, was a cold and cruel man that hated any race that wasn't elvish. While the owner didn't harm, he did, however partially defunded the orphanage due to humans being there.

After about a year being there, he ran from the place as he couldn't take the physical and mental abuse any further. As he wandered the country of Bolyra after managing to get through the Grim Desert, thanks to Dro'jirr and his family, and managed to reunite with his father in Stoneguard. The reunion was bittersweet, however, when he found out what happened to his mother and sister. This caused him to think of his father as a weak man, lose respect for him, and blame him for their deaths. When he discovered what his father had built, resentment came even further and decided to take his anger out on Aerilaya and Kailu. Which ends up regretting most of the time, but still continues to do it anyway. As time marched on, he became more bitter, crueler, and caused everyone in the complex to question his actions, but they never got answers as he put his walls up.
