Map of the Ruins of Bolyra's Pantheon that was once known as the 16 Protectors.
These deities are known across the country and worshipped by the people. While most deities of other cultures have only one all-knowing god or goddess, Bolyra has 16 and this isn't including the lesser Gods and Goddesses called The Guardians of the Realms. There was a time when temples were used to pray and get in touch with whichever deity they were seeking guidance from. But as time marched on, local shrines and home worship grew, and the temples dismantled or fell to ruin. Some deities loathed this idea, while others were fine with it.
Uzdon, God of Jealousy and Chaos, and his twin sister, Ophine, Goddess of Fertility are the only two deities that clash about this and have caused problems with the locals/worshippers. Some in that area suspect one of the twins became corrupted and that's the reason for their feud. Others suspect that one of the twins is just being childish as they are known to be the 'youngest' out of the 16.
Originally there were 8 deities - Tovldir and Oelia and Dinir - were the first known deities to the new planet that they had created. Tovldir was the God of the Night and Stars, and Oelia was the Goddess of the Sun, Day, Light, and Law and Dinir was the God of Light.
Over time Tovldir and his wife, Oelia had children. They were referred to as Original 6 and were worshipped primarily in Helina as Bolyra was a tiny country at the time.
Deities of Helina:
Naarae - Goddess of Earth and Fertility
Krolenta - Goddess of Shadows and Night
Dodaris - Goddess of the Hunt and Health
Laeyr - God of Battle and War,
Zinas - God of Flames, Blacksmith, and Hearth
Almos - God of the Moon and Sun
These 6 deities were ruthless compared to their parents. They created these strange rules for their worshippers to follow. One of which that survived over time was enslaving other beings they felt were inferior to them. With these rulings and how the people were treating one another; their parents placed them in the Hard Labor Realm as punishment.
Tovldir and Oelia created new deities through some clay that was found in Bolyra. These deities became known as the Gods and Goddesses of Bolyra. When they arrived, peace was restored to the two countries for several centuries until a God named Algor appeared seemingly out of nowhere. This being managed to break into the Hard Labor Realm and freed the Original 6.
They, the Original 6 fled to Helina, created the Grim Desert and its Sandstorms to prevent anyone, including Gods and Goddesses from seeking them. They restored their statuses, but with the Moon Elves, Drow, and Vernmer only.
The other deities tried to figure out who Algor was and what his game was, but they never got the chance as an enslavement movement was happening and the leader, who was becoming a dictator himself, started a war with the two countries. The deities put aside their differences, after the Originals fled with their worshippers to a town at the edge of the desert, to put a stop to Jandar and his plans. Once everything settled, peace restored, the Originals realized their errors, and sealed themselves away in a shrine in Taedmorden. This is when the 16 Gods and Goddesses took over Bolyra as Algor lurked in the shadows until the present day and the story's current timeline.
