The Review:

The story follows a father and daughter named Andy and Charlene "Charlie" Mcgee, who are on the run from a government agency known as The Shop. During his college days with his future wife, Victoria Tomlinson, the two participated in a Shop experiment dealing with "Lot 6" a drug with hallucinogenic effects similar to LSD. The drug gave Victoria a minor telekinetic ability, and him a telepathic form of mind control that he refers to as "the push". The abilities the two have is limited - in Andy's case, the push will give him crippling migraine headaches and minute brain hemorrhages. But with their daughter, she developed a frightening pyrokinetic ability.

This is one story that keeps on the edge of your seat, has likable characters that make you cheer for them to get to safety, and away from The Shop. The characters start in New York and on the run from The Shop's Agents. The novel begins in the midst of the plot but fills in what is going on through flashbacks to explain what happened and why they are on the run. The first time I read this book - in middle school at the time I felt that the story wasn't horrifying, but I felt sympathy for Charlie and what she was going through during the story. Now, that I'm older and rereading the book. I still feel sympathy for Charlie and her dad, Andy, but with a newfound love for the book and it's horror/science fiction elements. In my opinion, this is one of Stephen King's semi tamer novels compared to say Pet Sematary or The Stand, but I thoroughly enjoy the suspense/thriller aspect over the horror. This is one novel that I highly recommend if you are a Stephen King fan or love a good suspense/thriller tale.
