The Ancient Magus' Bride is a Dark Fantasy series that follows Chise Hatori and Elias Ainsworth.
A quick synopsis:
After being shunned by her relatives and partially by social. Orphaned High School Student, Chise Hatori decides to sell herself at an auction in order for someone to take her in and to have a place to call home. At the auction house in London, she's sold for five million pounds to a man named, Elias Ainsworth, a strange fellow that is seven-foot-tall with an animal skull for a head. This mysterious person, a magus, who's closer to looking and behaving like a demon than human, will either bring her the light she seeks or drowns her even further into darkness in her new country, Britain.
Review:
This is a story that I randomly came across on Amazon as a suggestion while looking for fantasy tales. The tale starts off dark and slightly foreboding as the characters are introduced. The characters are beautifully fleshed out and you can tell there has been attention to research detail as the story dives into Celtic Lore and various superstitions from Britain, Icelandic, Japanese, Arthurian, and Christian Mythologies. The magic system is clear and consistent along with the creatures that are seen throughout the story. This story hits everything that I love with a fantasy - Dragons, Fae (fairies), Hellhounds, and many more. It is one tale that I cannot stop recommending due to how well it is written.
